Trans Accessible Libraries Initiative

This guide provides practical information and library resources for UNTs transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming, gender variant, and gender diverse students.

Social Justice Resources

This page provides access to:

  • A selection of current social justice e-books (if you would like to find older e-books, or books in print, please use the UNT Libraries Catalog),
  • The Opposing Viewpoints database to locate pro/con articles to prepare for discussing differing perspectives, and
  • A selection of web resources, including general social justice resources, civic engagement resources provided by the library, and how to prepare for a protest as a transgender person (you may want to review some of the resources on the Criminal Justice page here as well).

If you need help with your research, please contact the Women's and Gender Studies Librarian, Julie Leuzinger (she/her/hers).

NOTE: While I have tried to use inclusive language in this guide, if you notice anything that could be improved, please don't hesitate to contact me with suggestions.

Social Justice Databases

You can use the database, Opposing Viewpoints, to locate pro/con articles for many topics, so you will have a better understanding of what some of the arguments will be to your position. Type your search term, in this case, transgender rights (highlighted in yellow below), in the text box. If your topic is broad enough, many times it will appear as you start typing (which occurred in the example below). Then click the magnifier glass icon to the right (circled in red below). The results page (shown below) will have an article that is a general overview of the topic, if you want to read the various Viewpoints (pro/con articles), click on that link below the article.

The above are not trans specific, but are useful resource guides created by other staff and librarians at the UNT Libraries.
