Trans Accessible Libraries Initiative

This guide provides practical information and library resources for transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming students, and those interested in trans studies.

Medical Resources

This page provides access to:

  • A selection of current medical e-books (if you would like to find older e-books, or books in print, please use the UNT Libraries Catalog),
  • The Consumer Health Complete database to locate current academic research in medicine, and
  • A selection of web resources for insurance and financial assistance.

If you need help with your research, please contact the Women's and Gender Studies/LGBTQ Studies Librarian, Julie Leuzinger (she/her/hers).

NOTE: While we have tried to use inclusive language in this guide, if you notice anything that could be improved, please don't hesitate to contact us with suggestions.

Medical e-books

NOTE: While those undergoing transition are not the target audience for this book, the librarian felt there was significant useful information about hormones, and hormone replacement therapy in general that it would be valuable for those who wish to do a deeper dive into the medical side of things. As more is published on hormone replacement therapy in e-book format, we will add it to the collection. For now, the librarian recommends using the database highlighted below for the latest research in this area.

NOTE: While those undergoing transition are not the target audience for this book, Chapter 27, "How are hormones used to help transgender people transition?" has useful information.

NOTE: While those undergoing transition are not the target audience for this book, Chapter 17, "The Transgender Woman and Sport Performance," had potentially useful information.

Science Databases

You can use the database, Consumer Health Complete, to locate reviews of books published about a specific topic. For example, enter "gender confirmation surgery" (highlighted in yellow below) in the text box and click the Search button (circled in red below).
