About Us

Welcome to The Soundbox Music Technology Lab! The Soundbox is a space within the UNT Music Library that is designed to provide access to technology and resources to facilitate music and audio production. 

Vision

The Soundbox promotes creativity and collaboration by making music and audio technologies accessible to the UNT community. As music-making trends and methods shift more towards new technologies, we strive to provide a space in which these technologies may be accessed, studied, and used creatively. In the Soundbox we empower play, curiosity, exploration, and discovery with music and audio equipment that is often out of reach.  

Services

The Soundbox is a music technology lab that includes standard music production and sound design resources such as Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), audio interfaces, and MIDI controllers:

• Our DAWs have a variety of software for composing, sequencing, and arranging, as well as editing tools for post-production.
• We also offer a rotating selection of hardware such as semi-modular and fully modular synthesizers for use in the Soundbox. Users are able to record their work and leave with a thumb drive containing their recordings.
• Additionally, we offer a selection of audio equipment, such as microphones, recorders, and interfaces, available for checkout with a student, staff, or faculty ID.

Our full-time staff and student workers are highly knowledgeable in various areas of recording, music production, sound design, and composition, and are available for support during Soundbox open hours or consultations by appointment. 

Workshops, Instruction, and Tabling

We offer workshops within the Soundbox for classes or interested groups. We can also bring the Soundbox out into the world for tabling events!
