What is the Help Yourself Campaign?
The Help Yourself Campaign (HYC) connects UNT students with library resources on topics that may be difficult and stressful for individuals to learn about or discuss openly due to contextual factors in their lives. We understand it can take time before individuals might be ready to talk to a person. We aim to help you help yourself.
Topics include:
- Adjusting to College
- Body Image and Eating Disorders
- Civic Engagement
- (Dis)Ability Diversity and Neurodivergent Identities
- Financial Literacy
- Food & Housing Insecurity
- Harassment & Stalking
- Legal Resources
- LGBTQIA+, Sexual Orientation, & Gender/Non-Gender Conforming Identities
- Mental Health
- Mindfulness
- Relationship & Domestic Violence
- Sexual Assault & Intimate Partner Violence
- Sexual Health & Reproductive Education
- Substance Abuse & Rehab
- Veteran Resources
- Work-Life-Balance & Career Planning
Additional campus, local, and national resources available. Content provided on this guide and within the UNT Libraries collection's are for informational and educational use and should not be considered legal advice. Students can receive legal advice from Student Legal Services.
HYC collections can be used in information-seeking and deeper self-guided bibliotherapy. HYC online resources can connect students to the many student-support offices on campus or in the Denton/DFW community that provide compassionate care when students are ready for the next step in their self-care. We understand it can take time for individual to be ready to talk to someone directly about their struggles.
Books on Help Yourself Campaign topics can be searched using subject headings and keywords. Use book call numbers to find books at Willis Library 3rd floor and Sycamore Library Mezzanine. Reading suggestions, collection highlights, government, and public online resources, and a list of campus and local support offices are available on the left-hand-sided tabs. Physical materials can be checked out at one of our service desks or through our self-check machines for complete privacy. Patron records, including check outs, are not shared with third parties unless under a government-issued subpoena.
