Happy Spooky Season! The Spark is the perfect place to create your own mini-me doll inspired by the movie Coraline.
Start your process by cutting out panels of fabric in a basic doll template. Stitch around the entire outline and leave a gap in the head to fill your doll with stuffing. It’s helpful to place some sort of support in the doll's neck, like a skewer or armature wire. You can also do this throughout the body to make positioning your mini-me easier.
After adding support, make sure to sew on the button eyes and other facial features before stuffing the fabric and sewing the head closed.
To add hair, use your color choice of yarn and glue strands along the doll's head with hot glue or fabric glue.
To make the accessories, use any scrap fabric you have to sew a basic shirt/vest, and a simple tube of fabric can make a skirt.
The shoes were made out of scrap fabric, embroidery floss, cardboard, and paper. Start by making the shoe base out of cardboard and building up layers of fabric/paper until you have your desired shoe shape. Embroidery floss makes great shoe laces!
Use extra fabric to create tube socks and attach them to the inside of the shoes so they stay on your doll's feet more easily.
Add final touches with acrylic paint, buttons, and embroidery floss, and you're done!
