In 1995, the USDA established Team Nutrition, a nationwide integrated program designed to help implement the School Meals Initiative for Healthy Children. The Healthy Meals Resource System (HMRS) was the training and technical assistance component of Team Nutrition. HMRS was originally funded by the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service and maintained at the National Agricultural Library's Food and Nutrition Information Center (FNIC) in collaboration with the University of Maryland. In 2019, HMRS was moved to the Institute of Child Nutrition (ICN) and is now part of ICN's Child Nutrition Sharing Site (CNSS), an online resource center providing child nutrition programs with a means for sharing valuable resources related to program operations.
