Assessment @ UNT Libraries

This guide is meant as an introduction to assessment at the UNT Libraries with relevant resources for anyone interested in starting their own assessment project.

UNT Factbook

UNT's Fact Book is prepared each academic year by the office of Data, Analytics, and Institutional Research. It contains a plethora of data such as enrollment, admissions by semester, test scores of admitted students, degrees awarded, faculty and staff, financial and facilities data.

Each year the library submits a selection of data to be included in the Fact Book.  The 2022-2023 Fact Book is available here.

IPEDS/NCES data

The Academic Libraries component for the National Center for Education Statistics Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) replaced the previous Academic Libraries Survey (ALS). Between 2000 and 2012, the ALS was conducted independently of IPEDS, which was collected from degree-granting postsecondary institutions every other year in even-numbered years. Since 2014 (there was not a survey in 2013), the ALS was reintegrated back into the IPEDS collection as the Academic Libraries (AL) component, which is mandatory and collected annually in the spring.

UNT's library data from 2014 and beyond can be compared across institutions using the "Compare Institution" data tool on the IPEDS Use the Data portal.

ACRL Academic Library Trends and Statistics

ACRL Annual Academic Library Trends and Statistics describes the collections, staffing, expenditures, and service activities of academic libraries in all Carnegie Classifications. ACRL publishes this annual survey electronically and in print.
