Video Creation

This guide outlines the strategic directions and strategies for creating library instructional videos.

Promote

Promotion of instructional videos helps maximize the visibility, reach, and impact of the videos. During the Promote part of the process, there are two important steps:

Video Creation Process: Promote includes the video launch and promotion plan.

Video Launch

A video launch will introduce the newly created video to library employees and the target audience. To do this, several key components are considered:

  1. Video Housing Platform: Videos will be uploaded to UNT Libraries’ YouTube channel.
  2. Video Details: Videos will all have titles and detailed descriptions that reflect the video’s content.
  3. Inform Library Employees: Information about the instructional video will be shared with library employees including the title, a brief introduction to the video, links/embed codes, and call to action to watch, share, and engage with the video. This information will be shared in a Team’s announcement, Friday Frags, and/or email.

Promotion Plan

By focusing on better promoting instructional videos, video creators can help raise awareness about various Library services and resources that are available, reach a wider audience including online students and faculty, and deliver relevant content that helps promote information literacy. Promotion Plans will differ depending on the video, but we will work together to determine the best plan of action. Promotion Plan may contain the following components:

  • Integration into relevant resources: Ensure seamless integration of instructional videos within relevant resources such as online modules, library website, guides, research databases, etc. (e.g., at the point of need).
  • Faculty email campaign: Consider reaching out to faculty members across disciplines to provide a brief overview of the video.
  • Faculty Training Resources: Offer faculty training resources on effectively integrating instructional videos into their teaching approaches, emphasizing their value as supplemental resources. An example would be how to add a video to their Canvas course.
  • Orientations: Incorporate instructional videos into faculty and student orientations to familiarize them with the available library resources and highlight benefits.
