Video Creation

This guide outlines the strategic directions and strategies for creating library instructional videos.

Plan

Planning an instructional video is extremely important as it lays the foundation for a successful and effective video. During the Plan part of the process, there are two important steps:

Video Creation Process: Plan includes the kickoff meeting and scripting.

Kickoff Meeting

The Kickoff Meeting is a brainstorming meeting between the Online Learning Librarian and the video creator to help establish the overall direction of the video. This meeting determines the following components:

  • Purpose and Objectives: Clearly define what the video creator wants to achieve with the video. Each video should focus on a single concept or skill.
  • Target Audience: Identify the target audience allowing video creators to tailor the video to effectively engage and resonate with the intended viewers.
  • Content Delivery: Ensure video is the right delivery option for the purpose/audience and considers alternative methods if needed.
  • Content Structure and Flow: Determine the sequence of information, break down complex concepts into digestible parts, and establish a flow.
  • Video Duration: Encourage a short duration which ensures that the video is concise and engaging, respecting the viewers' attention span.
  • Technical Aspects: Ensure video creators know how to record high-quality visual and audio for video using the OneButton Studios.
  • Timeline & Milestones: Determine the timeline for when the video needs to be completed and major video milestones.

Scripting and Storyboarding

Planning involves creating a script and storyboard for the instructional video. A script outlines the narration, dialogue, and key points to be covered in the instructional video, ensuring clarity and accuracy of the information presented. Scripting also helps you create videos that are concise. Please review the resource below for more information on how to script your instructional video.

Storyboarding helps visualize the visual elements, transitions, and overall visual storytelling. These planning tools provide a roadmap for the video production process and guide the creation of high-quality content.
