Video Creation

This guide outlines the strategic directions and strategies for creating library instructional videos.

Create

Creating an instructional video is the steps required to make the video a reality. During the Create part of the process, there are two important steps:

Video Creation Process: Create includes recording and video edits.

Recording/Production

Video creators will be able to record their own video footage or collaborate with Marketing & Communications to record. Video creators have a few options when recording including:

  • Using One Button Studios in the Library
  • Collaborating with Marketing & Communications Unit and the OLL on a video project

Please note that videos recorded on personal devices or outside of the OneButton Studio will not be accepted.

Tips & Tricks for Recording

  1. Ensure good framing and composition: Position yourself in the center or slightly off-center and leave some headroom above your head. Consider the rule of thirds, where you divide the frame into thirds both horizontally and vertically, and position yourself along these lines to create a visually appealing composition.
  2. Practice and rehearse: Before recording, practice your delivery and become comfortable with the content. Rehearse your script to improve your fluency, timing, and confidence. This will help you sound more natural and engaging during the actual recording.
  3. Take multiple takes: Don't be afraid to record certain sections mulitple times if you're not satisfied with the first one. It's common to make mistakes or stumble over words. By allowing yourself to retake certain parts, you can ensure a smoother and more polished final video. Plus, it’s super easy to remove unwanted parts during video edits.

Video Edits

The OLL or Marketing & Communications Unit completes the post-production video editing in Adobe Premiere Pro. This includes ensuring branding standards are met, visual/sound effects are added, transitions are appropriate, final changes are completed, etc. Once the initial video edits are complete, you will need to review the video and note any changes you would like made. I’ll work with you to make sure your video reflects your vision and publish the video on the video sharing platform.
