Research Methods for Social Sciences

An introduction to research design, methodology and library resources.

Introduction

Data analysis includes a range of methods used after collecting your data. The topic of data analysis is wide and deep, and the decision on which method to use is driven by your research design and questions.

There are several support services at UNT for students and researchers on data analytics and data management. The data management guide provides information for data management services and resources.

  • The UNT IT Data Science & Analytics (DSA) provides a series of articles, indexed on the Research Matters page, on a variety of statistical topics. They also provide short tutorials for various statistical software packages.
  • The Office of Research Consulting supports the research needs of faculty and graduate students at UNT, not just those in the College of Education, where it's based. Visit the ORC homepage to request a consultation session.
  • The University IT's Remote Software Access offers access to statistics, analytics, and modeling software packages for academic use. Visit their page for information on the current list of available applications and how to request access.
  • The Willis Library offers software applications on student computing workstations. Find the list of software on the computing/printing tab on the Spark guide
  • LinkedIn Learning provides video tutorials on many different topics including data analytics and programming languages.

To learn more about the general approaches in quantitative and qualitative data analysis, see the suggested books listed below.

There are also two library guides that provide information on writing about data and citing it:
