The following list of journals pertain specifically to church music. Some journals are online, while others are in print in the journal/periodicals section of the Music Library. Some series start in print and continue online, so it is important to look at the catalog record to determine if the journal issue is in the library or online. Sometimes, journal issues are missing or the library's subscription was not consistent, so there are missing issues. Sometimes, journals are donated, so the library has only what was given through the donation. Finding and locating journals can be tricky. Do not hesitate to email musicref@unt.edu for assistance. If the library does not have an article you need, you can request it through Interlibrary Loan. Journals are shelved by title.
There are three primary ways to find journal articles:
1) Search for a topic in the UNT Libraries Discover catalog and limit your search to journals once you retrieve the initial search results.
2) For online journals, it is possible to access it online and search within the ejournal database for specific topics.
3) Search in a relevant database.
For journal titles that are in print only, the library does not catalog the title information of each article in the journal, so it is difficult to know what articles are in each volume. Try searching in the Music Index or RILM databases and use the Publications search at the top left side of the screen to search for specific journal titles. Music Index and RILM will not have every journal but will have some journal titles for finding article titles and/or abstracts.
