Library Mentoring Program

This guide provides tools, templates, and resources to help participants in the UNT Libraries' Mentoring Program make the most of their mentoring experience.

Professional Advancement Mentoring (PAM) Group

The UNT Libraries Career Development Committee invites library faculty to participate in the Professional Advancement Mentoring (PAM) group, an ongoing group mentoring opportunity designed to support professional growth in areas such as service, research, and promotion.

What Is Professional Advancement Mentoring?

Professional advancement mentoring helps you grow as a scholar and professional by offering a space to share ideas, set goals, and learn from colleagues who have successfully navigated similar career paths.

The program focuses on key areas of academic and professional success, including:

  • Setting and achieving professional goals
  • Building a record of service and leadership in committees or organizations
  • Developing research and publication strategies
  • Preparing for annual reviews and promotion

Who Can Participate?

Any library faculty interested in advancing their professional growth is welcome to join!

Whether you want to:

  • Publish your first article or presentation
  • Strengthen your record of service
  • Work toward promotion or reappointment
  • Build confidence in scholarly or leadership activities

…the Career Development Committee is here to help you connect with peers and mentors who can guide you through the process.

Participants will join a collaborative peer group based on shared professional goals and interests, ensuring that discussions and activities are meaningful and relevant for everyone.

What Does the PAM Mentoring Group Look Like?

The PAM group uses a cohort-based mentoring model that encourages open discussion, collaboration, and shared learning:

  • The group meets monthly during the academic year.
  • Meetings are facilitated by a librarian of advanced rank or experience, who helps guide conversation and share insights.
  • Sessions often include practical discussions, examples, and short activities focused on advancing professional development.
  • This is a flexible, supportive space where participants can explore new ideas, share progress, and celebrate achievements together.
