Library Mentoring Program

This guide is designed to support protégés and mentors throughout their participation in UNT Libraries' mentoring program.

UNT Libraries Leaders Leading Leaders Team Mentoring Pilot FY26

The UNT Libraries Career Development Committee is launching a pilot of Leaders Leading Leaders (LLL), a team-based leadership development mentoring program, running from September 1, 2025 to August 31, 2026.

What is leadership development and how will it benefit me?

Leadership development helps you grow the skills needed to lead effectively—whether you're aiming for a future leadership role or building confidence in your current one. It focuses on key areas like communication, emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, strategic thinking, and decision making.

Who is leadership development mentoring for?

ANY full-time library employee (faculty or staff) who wants to develop leadership skills! Whether you are interested in becoming a better project coordinator, committee chair, supervisor/manager, or administrator, the Career Development Committee wants to help you hone those skills. Participants will be matched in small teams based on similar levels of experience and leadership goals, ensuring discussion topics are meaningful for the entire team.

What does team mentoring at the UNT Libraries look like?

The pilot will use small groups, with up to 4 mentees paired with one mentor (mentors may include administrators or other library leadership). Meetings are mentee led, selecting discussion topics meaningful to the group. Each group will learn through shared experiences and guidance from their mentor. This should be an approximately 15-hour commitment in FY26.
