This is a course guide for the 2022 Spring course for Topics in the United States: African American Music

Search Strategies Introduction

Search engines, such as Google, Bing, Duck Duck Go, and so forth, do a pretty good job retrieving results by searching for full sentences and strings of keywords for every day needs. Many of the library databases are designed differently from the search engines many people use daily. To get the best results, it is helpful to apply specific strategies when conducting searches for music resources.

Have fun trying different search strategies. Over time, you will develop your own process and methods for searching. Use the subpages to learn about strategies to test out when finding resources for your research.
