Hearing Health for Musicians

Resources to help musicians to care for their ears to protect their hearing now and in the future

Texas Center for Performing Arts Health

Students at the University of North Texas are able to access to the Texas Center for Performing Arts Health. As they explain on their website, "The Texas Center for Performing Arts Health (TCPAH) in partnership with the University of North Texas and the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in an interdisciplinary program to research, educate, and treat occupational health problems associated with performing artists."

The Center offers several diagnostic services related to health needs of performing artists, one of which is an assessment for hearing loss. We encourage all students to take care of their hearing and to visit the Center for an assessment if you have concerns about current or future hearing loss.

Our Colleagues at the TCPAH have done extensive research on a wide variety of topics, including on the use of earplugs for musicians. You can view a bibliography of their published research on the TCPAH site, then consult information on the Finding Articles tab on the left for access to specific works. If the library does not have access to an article, it might be possible to request it through Interlibrary Loan. Please do not hesitate to contact the Music Library for assistance.
