Reel To Real Classics

Reel to Real Classics is a group that promotes a dialogue on variety of social, cultural, and historical topics through the examination of classic film. Coordinated by Librarians Lilly Ramin & Steven Guerrero

Discussion

Discussion Guidelines: Part of the reason why we wish to explore these "classic films" is that this is a rich time in America to explore themes of gender, race, politics, history and more.  To have productive, and enjoyable meetings, please keep these courtesies in mind:

  1. Please be respectful of group members opinions on these films and the themes discussed.

  2. While resources will be discussed and films in question may be researched by the facilitators, we want these discussions to be enjoyable and are not intended to substitute a course.
    — Members of the group may vary in their expertise in film studies or media arts. That’s okay – we want people to have fun.

  3. Times and locations may differ but we will keep in mind schedules and preferences of core members. There is an opportunity for feedback and film selection.  This is a new group, there will be some learning as we go!
    Thank you for your participation!

Note:

  • There will be time at screenings to have a discussion, and to give feedback about the films and themes.

  • Facilitators will include context, and consult scholarly sources, although this will be brief. See blog posts for more information and potential original podcasts.
