ICC seeks to develop codes that have no regional limitations. Building codes are provided free of charge. Copyright of the standards is retained by ICC and are protected under United States and other applicable copyright laws.

Some standards from ISO are made publicly available in the interest of standardization. Copyright is retained by the ISO and individuals must adhere to appropriate licensing terms.

NFPA provides access to its codes and standards to individuals. View the list of codes and standards, select the document you want to view, select the "Free Access" link, users will need to create a profile or sign-in to access the document. Copyright of all codes and standards is retained by the NFPA.

NISO provides a collaborative environment for libraries, publishers, and software developers to find information industry standards. Standards regarding the management of information, traditional and new technologies, and the information life cycle are identified, developed, maintained, and published.

The Texas State Law Library provides access to several types of building codes from various organizations. Links are provided to available standards, but not all codes are freely available.
