South Korea has two official languages: Korean and Korean Sign Language (KSL)
Learning the Korean language isn't required when it comes to having a basic understanding of the cultural influences of Hallyu, or the "Korean Wave." However, learning Korean can significantly help with understanding the cultural contexts and nuances of K-pop songs or be able to critically analyze resources originally written or spoken in Korean.
UNT provides Korean language courses from elementary to intermediate levels. UNT also offers study abroad and exchange programs to South Korea for a more immersive learning experience. Learn more through the world languages webpage.
If you would like supplemental language learning materials, Willis provides several resources on learning the Korean language.
