Welcome!
This is a guide on what K-pop materials and K-pop-related resources are available at the UNT Libraries. This guide does not provide a comprehensive list of all of the resources available in the Discover Catalog. Rather, this guide serves as a starting point in your research on K-pop music, the industry, and Hallyu, or the "Korean Wave." Please view our online catalog to browse through the full K-pop album collection.
What is K-pop?
K-pop, or Korean pop, is a music genre that originated from South Korea. It encompasses many different styles and sounds taking influence from all over the world but especially from American pop. K-pop is also often characterized by its dynamic choreographies, eye-catching music videos, catchy song hooks, and strenuous training standards.
Why Did the Music Library Start a K-pop Collection?
Despite the rise of streaming music, physical K-pop albums are still popular items amongst K-pop fans. The Music Library has been slowly growing its K-pop collection since 2019, starting with collecting BTS and then expanding to other groups. These albums are deeply integrated into the K-pop industry which is why we thought it would be best to collect and have them available for circulation. We also keep the additional collectibles inside albums like photocards and have them available for check out, too.
