Creating a Business Plan

A business plan should offer a 3-5 year forecast for a new or developing business.
Business plans typically contain specific parts/information. Here are the basic parts of a business plan...

  • Executive Summary -- The Executive Summary is the first opportunity to capture someone's attention. This section provides a brief introduction to the business and the whole of the business plan, i.e. mission, vision, where the business is, where the business will go and why the business will be successful.
  • Company / Business Description -- Offer information about the business, the general industry and what sets this business apart from others.
  • Product / Service -- What is the product or service being offered and how will it benefit customers?
  • Market / Industry Analysis -- Know the playing field, illustrate the state of the industry, the market and potential and existing competitors.
  • Organization and Management -- How will the business be organized and the management structured.
  • Marketing -- Describe how the business, product or service will be marketed and customers target.
  • Financials -- Offer current and projected financial data, expenditures and funding sources.
