Tools to create and edit linguistic data

Some linguistics software is available in the UNT Linguistics Lab at Discovery Park.

  • PRAAT: a program for phonetic/phonological analysis
  • ELAN: a program for aligning text annotations with an audio or video file.
  • SayMore: for managing audio related to language documentation
  • Toolbox: “Toolbox is a data management and analysis tool for field linguists. It is especially useful for maintaining lexical data, and for parsing and interlinearizing text, but it can be used to manage virtually any kind of data.”
  • FieldWorks Language Explorer (FLEx): a program for dictionary compilation and text analysis
  • TLex (TshwaneLex): for compiling dictionaries or terminology lists. It includes tlCorpus, which can be used to search a corpus and create concordances

SayMore and FLEx are provided by SIL International, which distributes additional software tools.
