CACS 2030: Creativity and Complex Problems

This guide is designed to highlight library resources for students in CACS 2030 Creativity and Complex Problems

Finding Books in the Library Catalog

You can search for books in the UNT Libraries' catalog by visiting our homepage library.unt.edu and using the "Cataloged Books and More" search option. The catalog can also be accessed directly here

If you are looking for a specific book, you can search for that book directly by using the title and/or authors name.

If you don't have a specific book in mind, you can also browse the catalog using keywords or subject terms.

Keyword Searching

In the library catalog, use the default "All fields" option to search using keywords. This will find all the items matching your keywords but may also find items that are not relevant to your search.

Check out the Search Strategies page of this guide for helpful tips on improving your keyword searches in the library catalog, as well as when you are using any other search engine or database

Subject Searching

Sometimes to narrow your search, it is helpful to search using subject terms instead of keywords. To conduct a subject search in the UNT Library Catalog, search using the "subject" option. Using subject terms will only find items indexed with that specific subject and can help avoid unwanted results, especially if your desired topic contains common words or words that can have multiple meanings.

Subject Suggestions

The subject terms listed below may be relevant to finding sources for CACS 2030. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of CACS coursework, you may also want to look for sources using a variety of other subject terms as well which are not all listed here. Don't hesitate to reach out to your subject librarian for advice if your searches are unsuccessful!

Helpful Hint

Once you have successfully found one book on your desired topic, you can easily find more using subject searching. On the catalog record for any book, you can scroll down to see all subjects listed for this book.

Here is an example of what you might find:

On the UNT Library catalog, these subjects are presented as hyperlinks so clicking on any subject will lead you to more books on this topic. Try a few different ones to find the subject terms that are most relevant to your search!

Narrowing Your Search

In both keyword searching and subject searching, it is often necessary to continue narrowing your search to find relevant results. The UNT Library catalog offers many "facets" which make limiting your search easy and operate similarly to the search functions on many popular online retailers.

See how to use facets in this short video.

Pick Up Books in Frisco

If the book you want is located at one of our UNT Denton campus library location, try making a request to pick up this item at Frisco Landing Library. Many items at other locations are eligible for delivery to Frisco and can be requested using the "Request Pickup" icon shown below.

Books that do not have a "Request Pickup" icon are usually not eligible to be delivered to Frisco.
