The goals of the Scholarly Communication Office are to help inform users about recent trends in scholarly communication, support scholarly and creative publishing projects, and provide services meant to foster a more sustainable publishing ecosystem. Initiatives include: Scholarly Publishing Services, Copyright Advisory, Data Management Planning, and outreach programs related to scholarly communication.

Services include: consultations on publishing projects, resources for authors and editors, free journal hosting and support for qualified journals edited at UNT, publishing online editions for UNT Open Texts and select material published through grants on UNT Open Books, assigning ISBNs and DOIs, and linking UNT scholars to other resources like digital repositories.

Services include assisting faculty, students, staff and community members in understanding copyright law (including fair use), plagiarism, and publisher agreements and other contracts for transfer or licensing of material protected by copyright.

UNT Libraries can assist researchers with planning for the use and retention of research data.

A number of funding agencies now require grant seekers to include a Data Management Plan (DMP) with their research proposals, and UNT Grants and Contracts Administration requires that a DMP be prepared for most proposals.

This collection brings together articles, papers, presentations, books, chapters, reviews, academic posters, artwork, and other scholarly and creative works and makes them readily accessible to showcase UNT’s research and creative achievements to a worldwide audience. The UNT Scholarly Works collection also serves as the open access repository for UNT.

Graduate students can submit posters, slides, articles, and other scholarly outputs to the UNT Graduate Student Works collection of the UNT Digital Library. The UNT Libraries will handle preserving your work and making it freely available to the public! This is a great way to make your scholarship available as you build your CV or online portfolio. The UNT Data Repository is housed in the UNT Digital Library and serves as a central archive for the research datasets of our UNT scholars.

The Toulouse Graduate School plans and presents frequent learning opportunities on topics of high interest to graduate students.

UNT Writing Center and UNT Libraries collaborate to offer graduate tutoring and writing assistance.

UNT Writing Center holds drop-in hours in Willis Library during the fall and spring semesters.
