Ukrainian Music in the UNT Music Library: Home

music

The Music Library has significant holdings of Ukrainian music and information about Ukrainian music. It is notable that there are world-famous classical composers and performers who were always said to be Russian were actually from Ukraine. There have been fine Ukrainian composers since the Baroque era whose works were well known in their home country, but little known beyond it. The folk music of Ukraine has an even longer history that can be traced back to the Middle Ages. Nowadays, Ukrainian popular music that reflects both traditional Ukrainian and western influences is flourishing.

Freely-accessible websites such as Spotify and YouTube offer examples of a great variety of Ukrainian music. Subscription databases that the library provides, such as Naxos Music Library, Classical Music Library, and Alexander Street Press, are also important sources. The library has databases such as Grove Music Online, MGG Online, and Alexander Street Press that contain informative articles about Ukrainian music and Ukrainian musicians. Please see other pages on this site for more details.

Wikipedia should not be overlooked. It also has many relevant articles, and may provide information not readily available elsewhere.
