Browsing the Catalog
You can perform a subject search in the UNT Library Catalog, A Subject search is often a good starting point. Your results will display the number of titles we have under that general heading, and then under a series of sub-headings, which often focus on specific regions or related items. You can also perform keyword searches. The catalog will look for your search terms anywhere in the library item record (i.e. title, author, subject, notes), allowing you to perform a more targeted search.
When you have located the materials you are interested in, write down the call number and title and check the Call Number Location Guide to find the book on the shelves or present it to a staff person at the Service Desk for help.

The Political Science books are located on the Mezzanine Level of the Sycamore Library in the J-JZ call number range.

For this course project try using the following different search terms for a subject search (LGBT is not as subject term in our catalog) in the UNT Library Catalog to get books about your topic (a keyword search will only bring back books with that word in the title or catalog record):
From the UNT Libraries home page, select the Books & More tab on the right side of the blue box, use one of the above search terms in the text box, change the drop down menu below the text box to Subject, and then click the green Search button to the right of the text box.
