Citation Tracing Tools
Citation tracing refers to both finding references cited in a given article and finding newer articles that cite the original article. Citation tracing allows you to follow research through time. Cited references are past research, while citing works are more recent (relative to the article you already know about.)
- Web of scienceWeb of Science provides users access to integrated, multidisciplinary research with sizable search and navigation options. Web of Science can connect users with over 12,000 journals worldwide, including open-access journals.
- ScopusScopus is a curated abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, and features tools to track, analyze and visualize research. This resource delivers a comprehensive overview of the world’s research output in the fields of science, technology, medicine, social sciences and arts and humanities. Scopus allows users to search the literature, follow citations, and see who cited an article. Researchers can also use Scopus metrics to help demonstrate the value of their work.
- Google ScholarBe careful using Google Scholar for literature searching as the results list can be too large, search algorithms are not transparent, and search results may not be reproducible. Google Scholar can still be useful for some literature searches and it can be helpful for citation tracing as well.

Included are citations from Index Medicus, International Nursing Index, Index to Dental Literature, HISTLINE, SPACELINE, PREMEDLINE®, AIDSLINE®, BIOETHICSLINE®, and HealthSTAR®. - AgelineAgeline via Ebscohost produced by AARP and is the primary research database for social gerontology. Sources indexed include journals, books, book chapters, reports, and consumer guides and citations include abstracts provided by AARP. Over 600 scholarly and consumer-oriented serials are reviewed on a regular basis. Dates of Coverage: 1978 - Current, with selective coverage from 1966 to 1977.
Education
