Creating an Academic Poster

This guide provides the essential steps to create an impactful academic poster.

Printing your academic poster requires attention to detail to ensure the best quality output. Proper preparation and understanding of printing specifications are crucial to achieving a professional-looking poster.

Printing

  • A PDF will be the final file you will send to the printers. PDFs maintain fonts and composition. They also have good quality resolution for printing.

  • Make sure all images and graphics are of high resolution (300 DPI or higher) to prevent pixelation.

  • Choose the right paper type and finish (e.g., glossy, matte) based on the intended display environment.

Pro Tip - Proof before Printing

Proofing your poster before printing can save time, money, and avoid last-minute issues. A thorough proofing process helps catch errors and ensures the final product meets your expectations.

  • Open PDF in Adobe Acrobat Print – Actual size: This will allow you to see a sample section of your poster to know if the font is legible and the images are not pixelated.

  • Carefully check for typos, alignment issues, and color accuracy.

  • Ensure all text is readable from a distance appropriate for poster viewing, and that key elements stand out.

  • Have a colleague or mentor review the proof for a fresh perspective and additional feedback.
