Research Intellectual Property

UNT Policy 08.003 covers all intellectual property created using UNT facilities or resources except for:

  • online courseware (covered by UNT Policy 06.032)
  • trademarks and service marks (which are handled by UBSC)

As this policy explains, works created by employees in the course of their employment are owned by UNT. Generally speaking, this includes works produced using grant funding and or stipends paid by UNT. Works not owned by UNT, generally speaking, are works produced by faculty members, students, or staff on their own time for research and scholarship.

For more information, or to seek permission to use a UNT-owned work, contact Steven Tudor in Research Commercial Agreements.
