Harp Resource Guide

guide tor finding scores, books, journals about the harp

International Harp Archives information

The International Harp Archives (IHA) began in 1985 with a major donation of scores (including many rare editions), research papers, and photographs from Samuel and Rosalie Pratt. Not long after, additional donations of personal archival materials, scores, and recordings were received from numerous harpists. The IHA is the official host of the Archives of the American Harp Society and World Harp Congress. The Archives collects, preserves, and provides access to materials documenting the harp’s rich history and artistry, including scores, manuscripts, recordings, photographs, correspondence, programs, and interviews. Originally housed at Brigham Young University, the Archives were moved to UNT in 2025.

Finding Aids

For researchers interested in primary sources, manuscripts, and important historical documents relating to the harp, start with the descriptions and inventories in our finding aids repository. We are still processing the collection since its arrival at UNT, so please do ask us about collections for which you cannot locate a finding aid.

Requesting Reproductions

If you cannot view the item in person or would like copies for research, you may request a reproduction.
Please send your request to: musicref@unt.edu.

Visit Us

We welcome researchers and harp enthusiasts to visit the library and to work with materials from the International Harp Archives. All of the materials are stored off site, so prior arrangement and an appointment are required to access them.
