Helpful Tips

  1. Start early on your research.
    • Research often takes more time that you think it will. I recommend searching in at least two different databases because each database has a unique set of sources to pull from.
    • Try keeping a research log of the database your visit, the key words or subject terms that you use, and the limiters that you use. Remember to write down which ones have the most success. This research process will help you be strategic and systematic in your research.
  2. Make a list of citations while you find useful articles.
    • This can take the more of creating a draft of bibliography, reference, or works cited page. As you write your paper, keep this list next to you with notes on what the internal citations for each entry looks like. When you are done writing, revise the list to only the sources you used. Edit the citations to match the manual of style that you are using, and Voila! You're bibliography, reference, or works cited page is done.
  3. Make sure you explain the context of your references while you write.
    • This can help you learn hoe to paraphrase, summarize, and quote the sources you are using too!
