Journal Article Databases

Many of these electronic resources are databases or indexes to scholarly journals, newspapers, books, and full-text resources. While some of the government resources are available to everyone, remote access to most of these databases is limited to persons affiliated with UNT.

Several electronic indexes offer a special index of terms or a thesaurus to help identify appropriate search terms. Most resources use the principles of Boolean logic (i.e., connecting search terms with AND, OR, NOT) and allow limiting your search by date.

Here is a list of some electronic indexes and full text resources that cover issues related to emergency management.

ABI/INFORM
ABI Inform provides full text and abstracts of articles in journals, magazines, and newspapers covering a wide range of topics in business and industry. Dates of Coverage: 1923 – Current
Environment complete
This resources offers patrons full-text access to over 1,300 journals and monographs in areas of agriculture, ecosystem ecology, energy, and related areas of study, as well regular access to more than 2,500 domestic and international journals.
SocINDEX with full text
SocINDEX with Full Text via EBSCO is a sociology research database featuring more than 2.1 million records. The database contains full text for 860+ journals, 830+ books, and 16,800+ conference papers abstracts for 1,300+ core journals, 450+ priority journals, and 2,900+ selective coverage journals extensive indexing for books, conference papers and non-periodical content and 25,000+ author profiles. Topics covered include: abortion, criminal justice, demography, ethnic and gender studies, marriage and family, political sociology, religion, social development and psychology, social work, socio-cultural anthropology, sociological history and research, sociological theory, substance abuse and addictions, violence, and many others. Dates of Coverage: Varies by resource some citations date back to 1895.
PsycInfo
PsycInfo via Ebscohost peer-reviewed literature in behavioral science and mental health. Includes information about the psychological aspects of related fields such as medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology, technology, linguistics, anthropology, business, law, and others.Contains citations and summaries dating as far back as the 1600s. Wiley-Blackwell Journals
a multidisciplinary collection of online resources covering life, health and physical sciences, mathematics, computer science, behavioral and social science, and the humanities. It provides indexing to over 5 million articles from over 1,500 peer-reviewed journals and over 11,500 online books, reference works, databases, laboratory protocols and interdisciplinary reviews. Full-text access is limited to approximately 350 titles in biology, chemistry, mathematics, behavioral sciences and computer science, indicated by an open lock icon displayed in the search results.
Web of science
Web of Science provides users access to integrated, multidisciplinary research with sizable search and navigation options. Web of Science can connect users with over 12,000 journals worldwide, including open-access journals.
If you experience access issues, go to vpn.unt.edu and log in with your EUID and password, then type/paste the Libraries' url http://www.library.unt.edu and proceed as normal.
ScienceDirect
ScienceDirect connects researchers, teachers, and students to a broad array of high quality journal articles, book chapters, and supplementary data users can access over 2,000 academic journals and more than 33,000 books. ScienceDirect offers content from four major subject areas: physical sciences and engineering, life sciences, health sciences, and social sciences and humanities. ScienceDirect also hosts a number of open-access journals.
