These are library services that give you access to books, journal articles, and other library items. In other words, Access Services get the materials you need into your hands, whether you're an on-campus or online student. Many books and journals can be checked out of the Libraries for a period of time for your convenience. See the Hours webpage for the times when service desks are open and their contact information. Visit Check Out Materials for checkout periods and other details.
You can renew library materials online through your Discover catalog account. See the left-hand login on the Accounts Login page. Or you can renew items in-person at one of the Libraries' service desks - see the Hours page for available times. Visit Renew Your Materials for details and policies.
Need a book or journal that is at a different UNT library or in Remote Storage? For books and bound journals, place online holds on titles through the library catalog; the item will be delivered to the UNT library of your choice in 24 hours on weekdays. For articles, make the request through your ILLiad account - go to Accounts Login to sign in.
Need a journal article, book chapter, book or another source that's not at the UNT Libraries? Our Interlibrary Loan Service will contact other libraries and get the material you need free of charge. You need to create an ILLiad account on the Accounts Login page to start submitting your requests.
Are you taking online courses only? Then you can receive books and journal articles through Distance Learning Services. Use your ILLiad interlibrary loan account to request items. Sign into ILLiad at Accounts Login or got to ILLiad registration to create an account. You will receive items within 48 hours after you request them. Books are sent by USPS Express Mail and journal articles are scanned and sent to your ILLiad account. This service is free to UNT distance students!
Librarians assigned to a particular class or department are called subject librarians. Look at this subject librarian list and find the one assigned to the dept offering your course (ENGL = English, BIOL = Biology) or to your major. You can contact the subject librarian by phone or email and make an appointment for individual assistance. Don't be shy - librarians love to meet with students, faculty and staff and help them with their research and library questions.
There may be times when you have difficulty accessing a particular electronic database or article. Whether you are on or off campus, you can contact our Ask Us service to get assistance or visit our On and Off Campus Access page for troubleshooting tips.
Laptops are available for checkout at the Willis, Sycamore Library and Discovery Park Libraries. The laptops check out for 4 hours and can be taken outside the Libraries. Please see the laptop checkout details before using this service.
The Willis Library houses the 24 Center Computers, from which students can print based on the technology fee they paid with their tuition. Public Use Printing is available for UNT staff and faculty, and community members, through Public Use Computers in the Willis and Sycamore Library Libraries at 10 cents per page.
Copiers are available at the Willis and Sycamore Library at a per page cost. Only the Willis Library has a color copier.
Scanners are available at the Willis and Sycamore Library, and their use is free of charge.
